Background
This section is important to prospective candidates for the following reasons:
- Research has found that over 80% of candidates say the team is really important. People don’t just join a company, they join a team!
- Therefore, bring out the selling points for the team e.g. if the team is new or growing or entrepreneurial – include that. And make it personal, use ‘team’ and ‘we’ and ‘our’ as much as possible to demonstrate collaboration and connection.
So, it’s important to:
- Bring the team to life – explain how it operates, its place in the organization.
- Summarise what the team does – make it really easy for a candidate to understand what the team is responsible for and it what it delivers.
- Highlight the purpose and value of the team and where it makes a difference e.g., to customers, the team, the company.
- Make sure every point is meaningful and informative and not too generic (i.e. could apply to any team)
- Avoid using generic descriptors about the people in the team e.g. motivated, talented, professional, hard-working, highly skilled.
